- אַפֹּוטְנִיֹּות, אַפֹּטְ׳(אַפּוּטְנֵי) f. pl. (putealia, or puteana) enclosures surrounding a well, protected cisterns (in Noahs ark). Pirké dR. El. ch. 23, expl. ib. המכסים את אמות המיםוכ׳ (not והמכניסימ) which cover the wells and can be opened and closed. Targ. Y. Gen. 6:14 אַפֹּוטְנִיוּתָא (נְיָיתָא …?). Tosef.Erub.XI (VIII), 7 כלי אפוטני (ed. Zuck. אב׳ כלים, in oth. ed. omitted) tools for unlocking the puteal.
